Painter - I am .......
From a very early age I have been attracted to paint. Yes Paint........in cans, tubes, sticks, bottles, etc. I was just fascinated with paint. So from about age 8 or 9, I painted....on cardboard, wood, newspaper, brown paper bags, anything I could find. Another clear memory I have, is visiting one of the first Wickford Art Festivals. Artwork was displayed on home made wire racks of some sort. Some artists were even painting! This is where I witnessed a man painting with a knife and thought it to be very odd. I wondered why he wasn't using a brush. As I watched - his painting progressed each time he touched the canvas with a new glob of paint. An image was taking shape and very quickly turned into a beautiful street scene. I was hooked. - This is what I want to do, I want to be a painter! The very idea was exciting to me as I imagined painting my way through life. That did happen for awhile (art fairs, commissions, gallery representation) until my corporate career, family and "life" in general demanded all of my time and attention. Fast forward to 20 l l - when I returned to my artistic journey full time. I am back painting in oil & watercolor, taking classes & workshops whenever I can. Painting for me can be High Drama or Very Subtle, with light and shadow taking the leading roles. I can get inspired by morning sunlight streaking across my kitchen counter and throwing dramatic shadows everywhere. Or it could be that "Magic Time" lighting that happens just before dusk when everything takes on a golden glow. I'm excited ........I'm hooked! Today - I'm a painter....painting my way through life. |
